The 18th International Festival of Operatic Singers “Marie Kraja”

The 18th Festival took place in Tirana at the Theatre of Opera and Ballet on March 28th, 29th, and 30th, 2022. Around 250 singers applied for participation, and joined the auditions. 15 singers were qualified to the semifinals phase of the Festival in Tirana. During the semifinals, which took place on March 28th and 29th   all singers presented one aria in each of the nights. The final took place on March 30th with 8 qualified singers from the semifinals competing with their best aria. In parallel to this competition, singers also competed for a song prize with most famous repertoire of world classic song legends. During the whole competition, singers were accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet directed by the British conductor, Martin André.

This Festival was broadcast live on the Albanian Public Television RTSH through a terrestrial and satellite broadcast for Europe and North America. Famous guest artists were invited to perform during the Festival. The printed and electronic media expressed higher interest to the Festival.

The 17th Festival took place in Tirana at the Cathedral of Orthodox Church on April 18th, 19th, and 20th, 2019. Around 200 singers from four continents participated in applications and auditions, and 15 singers were qualified to the semifinal phase of the Festival in Tirana.During the semifinal of competition, which took place on April 18th and 19th, singers presented one aria in each night. The final took place on April 20th with 8 qualified singers from the semifinal that competed with one aria. In parallel to this competition, singers also competed for a song prize with most famous repertoire of world classic song legends.During the whole competition, singers were accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet directed by the British conductor, Martin André.

This Festival was broadcast live on the Albanian Public Television RTSH through its terrestrial and satellite broadcast for Europe and North America. Famous guest artists were invited to perform during the Festival, like the world tenor Murat Karahan, and the young virtuoso violinist of Albanian descent Elvin Hoxha Ganyiev. The printed and electronic media devoted to this edition of the Festival a much higher interest.

The 16th Festival took place in Tirana at the Theater of Opera and Ballet on November 3rd, 4th, and 5th 2016. Around 250 singers from four continents participated in applications and auditions, and 15 singers were qualified to the semifinal phase of the Festival in Tirana.The semifinal of competition phase took place on November 3rd and 4th, when singers presented one aria in each night. The final took place on November 5th with 8 qualified singers from the semifinal competing with one aria. In parallel to this competition, singers also competed for a song prize with most famous repertoire of world classic song legends.During the whole competition, singers were accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini.

The 15th Festival took place in Tirana on October 30st and 31st, 2015 at the Theater of Opera and Ballet. More than 200 singers from four continents competed in two phases. The applications phase took place from May to September 2015. The auditions phase qualified 13 singers to continue their competition in Tirana during the two days of the Festival. They presented during the first night of the Festival their selected aria performing with the Symphony Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini.  8 singers who were selected by the international Jury competed in the final night of the Festival for the three big Prizes, and a song Prize.

This Festival was put live on the Albanian digital platform DIGITALB through a terrestrial and satellite broadcasting in Europe and North America. Famous guest artists were invited to perform during the Festival. The printed and electronic media devoted to this edition of the Festival a much higher interest.

The auditions phase qualified 18 singers to continue their competition in Tirana during the two days of the Festival. The first night of the Festival was a competition of all 18 singers accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Radio Television directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini.  9 singers who were selected by the international Jury competed in the final night of the Festival for the three big Prizes.

All the competing singers brought to this Festival one traditional song from their original countries.

About 120 singers from four continents competed in two phases. The first phase, which was the applications phase, took place from May to September 2010. The auditions phase qualified 18 singers to continue their competition in Tirana during the two days of the Festival. The first night of the Festival was a competition of all 18 singers accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Radio Television directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini.  9 singers who were selected by the international Jury competed in the final night of the Festival for the three big Prizes.

All the competing singers brought to this Festival one traditional song from their original countries.

The Festival took place in Tirana on 7 and 8November 2009under the patronage of the Prime Minister, SaliBerisha. More than100 singers from five continents competed during the several phases of selection. The first phase, which was the applications phase, took place from May to September 2009. The selection phase qualified 18 singers to continue their competition during the two days of the Festival in Tirana. The first night of the Festival was a competition of all 18 singers accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Academy of Arts directed by the Austrian conductor, Claudio Buschler. 10 singers competed in the final night for three big Prizes.

Distinguished guest artists who were invited to the Festival, performed for the public with high standards. The Festival was put live on the Albanian Public Television through a terrestrial and satellite transmission in Europe and North America.

The Festival took place in Tirana on 30 and 31October 2008 in the Academy of Fine Arts. About 90 singers from four continents competed in several phases. The first phase, which was the applications phase, took place from May to September 2008. The selection phase qualified 25 singers to continue their competition during the Festival in Tirana. The first appearance was an audition with piano of 25 singers before the International Jury. In the second and third days of the Festival, the singers performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Academy of Arts directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini. The Festival was broadcast live on the Albanian Public Television through a terrestrial and satellite transmission in Europe and North America.

15 singers competed during the second day, and 10 singers during the final day of the Festival, heading for the three Festival big Prizes.

Different guest artists were invited during the Festival days, and high interest was generated by the media.

The first phase, which was the applications phase, took place from May to September 2007. The auditions qualified 25 singers to continue their competition in Tirana during the 3 days of the Festival. The first appearance was an audition with piano of 25 singers before the International Jury. In the second and third day of the Festival, the singers performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Academy of Arts directed by the Italian conductor, Leonardo Quadrini. The Festival was broadcast live on the Albanian Public Television through a terrestrial and satellite transmission in Europe and North America.

15 singers competed during the second day, and 10 singers during the final day of the Festival, heading towards the three Festival big Prizes.

The 7th International Festival of Operatic Singers “Marie Kraja”

This Festival took place in Tirana on 27, 28 and 29 October 2005 in the Academy of the Fine Arts. 76 singers from four continents took place in this Festival, competing in two phases. The first phase took place in May-June 2005, and it qualified 18 singers to continue their competition during the 3 days of the Festival.

Philharmonic Orchestra of the Academy of Arts with Martin Andre (UK) as conductor accompanied the singers. The three concerts were broadcast LIVE on the Albanian Public Television through a terrestrial and a satellite broadcast in Europe and North America.

This Festival introduced a new additional price, which was called “Singer of the Future: InvaMula”, which was offered by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports.

During the three concerts of this Festival, many Albanian distinguished artists were invited to perform. Through their performance, they demonstrated high levels of interpretation in the genres of music and ballet. Like in the past, this Festival attracted the special attention of printed and electronic media. They prepared 62 news articles and TV reports, ranking this Festival as one of the highest levels of the Albanian stage.

The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Academy of Fine Arts accompanied the singers. The 3 concerts of this Festival were broadcasted live on the Albanian Public TV.

The 2nd Festival of Operatic Singers was INTERNATIONAL and took place on 2, 3 and 4 June 2000. 18 operatic singers from Albania, England, Germany, USA, Australia, South Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, etc. participated in the competition. The Symphonic Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet of Albania accompanied the singers during the three concerts.

The Festival was broadcasted LIVE on two Albanian national television channels.

The 1st Festival of Operatic Singers “Marie Kraja”

The 1st Festival of Operatic Singers “Marie Kraja” was held on 22, 23 and 24 January 1999, and it was national. 20 operatic singers competed for the big Prize “Marie Kraja”, and two other Prizes.

The singers were accompanied during the three concerts of the Festival by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Theater of Opera and Ballet of Albania (TOB). This event was brought live on TV.

In order to increase its audience, the Festival was perceived as a TV spectacle, which focused on the most known opera repertoire, and its most “popular” parts.

The spectacular cover of this activity was further widened with invitees, such as ballet groups, singers, instrumentists, etc. Six costume designers had recreated in a modern style costumes of the most famous characters of the worldwide opera repertoire, which were presented through a costume-parade. All those, and especially the expected high level of the operatic artists brought the Festival to an absolute success.
